Black Diamond residents have the opportunity to share their ideas on climate change and sustainability.
In partnership with the University of Calgary and the Pembina Institute, the town is hosting a couple of dialogue sessions to work out how to implement it's sustainability plan, developed in 2006. Mayor Sharlene Brown says the ideas are there, now they want to decide the best way to put them into action and she says community involvement will be key. She says you need community buy-in and you need the community to be aware because if you don't have those things, the action steps you as a municipality are going to take, can't happen. Brown is also hoping that youth will lead the way. She says youth know a lot about sustainability already and they're future is the reason to protect the environment and the cultural and social infrastructure of the community. The first session will be held on Saturday, March 20th at the Griffith Memorial Hall from 9:30-2pm. Brown says registration is free but it is required as lunch and child care will be provided.
