Strathmore cops are on the look-out for a suspect in a bizarre home robbery.
Thieves made off with more than $50,000 worth of home furnishings and assorted items after a bold break-in at a rural home.
Sergeant Kevin Reilly of the Strathmore RCMP says, the culprits simply backed up a vehicle and cleaned out the house, "On Monday, June 29th, 2010, a break, enter and theft at a residence in the Strathmore rural area. Unknown persons entered the residence through the garage. Once inside, they backed the vehicle up to the front of the house. Loaded up a number of items. Approximate value of what was stolen is somewhere around $50,000."
Sergeant Reilly reminds home-owners, if they're going to be out of town, taking some simple pre-cautions can keep their home from being a target. "Anybody that's going away for an extended time period. There's a number of things. If they have motion sensor lights in their yards. If they have lights on timers inside the residence that come on and off at different times. If you have somebody, a neighbour check the residence. Make sure they pick up the papers, the mail, so that things aren't lying around."
Sergeant Reilly says this is one instance where being a nosy neighbour is a good thing. If you spot something that doesn't seem right in your neighbourhood, call your local police.
if you have any information about this case, please contact the Strathmore detachment or call Crimestoppers at 1 800 222 TIPS (8477).
