Strathmore RCMP have released further details in connection with a crash on Highway 1 about 10-kilometres east of the town Monday night.

A farm tractor with a hay bine was being driven by a 63-year-old man from the Strathmore area when a semi slammed into it from behind while trying to pass. RCMP now say the farm tractor adjusted for a guard rail causing the hay bine to enter into the passing lane. They say the driver of the semi was unable to slow down or swerve out of the way in time.

The driver of the farm tractor was killed.

Mounties are also still investigating a collision involving one of their own.  A marked RCMP cruiser was stopped on Highway 22-X about 4:45 Monday afternoon waiting for the vehicle in front to make a safe left turn on to a rural road when the cruiser was rear-ended by a motorcycle. The 51-year-old driver of the motorcycle was treated for his injuries at the Strathmore hospital and then released.
