Lightning strike victim taken to High River Hospital.

A lightning storm last Thursday took the life of a man visiting Canada from South Africa.

He was killed after he was hit by lightning northwest of Stavley where he'd been working as part of an agricultural exchange.  A co-worker performed CPR until EMS crews arrived from Claresholm and Nanton.

He was first taken to High River hospital and then to Foothills Hospital in Calgary. He succumbed to his injuries the next day.

He's been identified as 22-year-old Dean Duchenne. His family and the South African embassy have been notified and have made arrangements to have his body taken back to South Africa.
