The August long weekend is fast approaching and Okotoks Municipal Enforcement reminds everyone to be safe.

Team Leader Tim Stobbs says their biggest concerns are around drivers.

"We're really concerned about people consuming alcohol and operating motor vehicles, we're concerned of the fact that people are impatient due to the higher traffic volumes and may engage in risky driving behaviours such as passing when unsafe or engaging at high speeds on the highways."

He says, "if people can ensure they follow the basic rules of the roads they'll arrive at their destination safely."

He says your best bet is to give yourself plenty of time to get where you need to go.

Stobbs also encourages people to enjoy the town's water systems responsibly.

"We encourage anybody using the water to make sure that children are supervised and if you're using the water and it's deep, please make sure that children use floatation devices." He also says, "use of alcohol in the river valley system is prohibited."

The forecast for the weekend according to Environment Canada is a mix of sun and cloud with temperatures in the mid-to-high 20's.
